Why Growthnik

A new way to think about growth

Tell me, what is a “growthnik?”

So glad you asked!

A growthnik is “a strategist who uses a growth marketing approach, combined with marketing techniques, such as content marketing and email marketing, and marketing tools, such as marketing automation and AI, to achieve business growth.

Did you make that word up?

Yes, I did.

What’s wrong with “growth hacker?”

Well, the term “growth hacker” seemed a little limiting. A lot of people believe that a growth hacker is someone whose growth solutions must use technology as the main driver. You know, like the legendary AirBNB growth hack. Those were people with mad programming skills.

And while that’s one way to do it, I don’t think it’s the only way. There are many people out there—content, email, and social media marketers, to name a few—who do what I would consider “growth hacking,“ but others wouldn’t. They’re optimizing their blog posts, emails, and social media to grow their audiences, generate revenue, and produce business results. And while technology certainly can play a part in their work, it doesn’t always have to.

Ultimately, for me, growth is a mindset—it’s more about taking an analytical approach to determine what works and what doesn’t, and achieving growth by doing more of “what works” and less of “what doesn’t.”  It’s about understanding your market intimately, knowing who they are, what they want, how they move through your business funnel, and why they make the decisions they do. It’s about creating value. It’s about making strategic plans and calculated risks—not just “throwing stuff against the wall to see what sticks.”

So that’s why I created the word “growthnik.” It’s more inclusive.

Plus, I like making up new words.

I want to be a growthnik, too. Where do I sign up?

Great! Always looking for passionate people!

There’s no formal process—just be creative. And analytical. And stay curious. And keep learning. And never settle for “good enough.”
